Empowering students beyond the conventional curriculum.
At Savannah International Academy, the Curriculum Enrichment Programme (CEP) is a flagship co-curricular initiative that complements academic learning with practical, experiential opportunities. CEP creates a bridge between theory and practice, equipping students with the life skills, leadership qualities and personal growth experiences they need to become responsible, proactive contributors to their communities and the world.
CEP is underpinned by the SIA4 Framework, which guides students to develop across four pillars:
Through roles such as Class Reps, School Prefects, the Student Council and student-run initiatives.
Through robotics, design thinking, problem-solving and creative production.
Through creating and selling value products, business planning, budgeting and pricing.
Through partner projects, peer teaching, tournaments, forums and school trips.
Every CEP club meets weekly, giving students structured, hands-on learning beyond the classroom, culminating each term in a showcase where clubs present their projects and achievements to the wider school community.
Each term, students select one club to commit to for the duration of the term, choosing from:
Coding, robotics and STEM-based problem solving. Students build and programme robotic models, tackle hands-on STEM challenges, and develop digital literacy, teamwork and innovation.
Photography, videography, storytelling and media production. Students learn camera handling, editing and content planning, producing their own short films and documentaries and covering school events.
Martial arts, discipline and self-defence. Through structured training, students build strength, coordination, confidence and mental focus, guided by the principles of discipline and respect.
Acting, storytelling and stage performance. Students develop confidence, creativity and teamwork through script writing, rehearsals and live performances.
Ghanaian drumming, dance and cultural appreciation. Students learn traditional rhythms and dances from across Ghana, celebrating heritage and building cultural pride.
Environmental sustainability and eco-friendly practices. Students take part in recycling projects, tree planting and eco-awareness campaigns, turning waste into creative, practical solutions.
Public speaking, debating and persuasive communication. Students build confidence, critical thinking and leadership through speech writing, debate preparation and competitions.
Beyond weekly club sessions, CEP also includes educational trips and cultural immersion experiences for older students, offering first-hand exposure to Ghanaian traditions, leadership customs and artisanal skills.
In recent terms, CEP has engaged over 170 students across its clubs, with consistently high participation, enthusiasm and impactful learning outcomes.
Savannah International Academy is proud to be a pilot and reference school for the PLO Africa Mentees Club, delivered in partnership with the PLO Lumumba Ghana Chapter as part of the wider Project 50 Basic Schools initiative.
Rather than an optional club, the PLO Mentees Programme is a whole-cohort enrichment experience for students from Year 4 to Year 9, designed to nurture young learners with a strong sense of African identity, ethical leadership and civic responsibility.
Through weekly sessions, students explore:
Tracing the history and ideals of African unity through storytelling, discussion and the legacies of figures such as Kwame Nkrumah and W.E.B. Du Bois.
Building a culture of integrity, transparency and accountability.
Understanding what it means to be a responsible, engaged member of society.
Connecting students with guidance and inspiration to support their personal and academic growth.
The programme has engaged well over 100 students at a time, and SIA's successful delivery has positioned the school as a model for the PLO Mentees Club's expansion to other basic schools across Ghana.
There's only so much a classroom can teach you about the world of work. That's why Savannah International Academy runs a Student Internship and Career Exploration Programme for students in Years 8 to 12, giving them a real, hands-on look at what different careers actually involve before they have to choose a path. It's coordinated through our Curriculum Enrichment Programme (CEP) and built around one simple idea: students learn best by doing.
Each year, a group of students spends four weeks with a partner organisation, usually somewhere between mid-July and mid-August. They report to their host from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday to Thursday, working alongside real professionals and getting a genuine feel for a typical workday.
Before the internships begin, students go through an orientation to help them arrive prepared, covering:
Over time, we've built genuine relationships with organisations across Tamale and the Northern Region, spanning agriculture, law, technology, finance and the judiciary. Students have spent time at places like Savana Signatures, AgriTech, AESL, AF Yakubu and Associates, the Tamale High Court, and TOLCGH, giving them a real cross-section of professional life to learn from.
By the time the internship ends, students come away with more than just a certificate. They:
At the end of the four weeks, each student receives feedback from their host organisation and sits down with the school for a debrief, connecting what they've experienced to where they see their future heading.
No student takes part without a parent or guardian's consent, and every placement is carefully arranged between the school and the host organisation, so the experience stays safe, structured and genuinely worthwhile. We're grateful to every partner organisation that opens its doors to our students and helps shape a generation of confident, career-ready young people.
