Justin Bukari

Justin Bukari’s journey through Savannah International Academy has been marked by resilience and dedication. From his initial years in Grade 8 to now being on the brink of completing his final year at 18 years old, Justin has shown immense determination and a commitment to making a positive impact despite personal and familial challenges.

Residing in Gumanli/Kanvilli with his parents and three siblings, Justin’s family faced significant hurdles due to his father’s battle with Glaucoma, which rendered him blind in 2008. This unforeseen circumstance imposed financial strains on the family, with Justin’s parents being educators in local high schools and his father, previously the primary breadwinner, unable to continue working.

The SIA Trust scholarship provided a lifeline for Justin’s education, offering him opportunities he might not have had otherwise. His dedication to community service and cleanliness initiatives shines through, as he actively engages in clean-up campaigns to address local environmental challenges.

Within the walls of Savannah International Academy, Justin found a space where his voice matters. His enthusiasm for learning and contributing to discussions both inside and outside the classroom has been evident. Encouraging a nurturing environment where Justin feels empowered to express himself has likely contributed to his growth and development throughout his time at the school.

As Justin approaches the culmination of his academic journey at Savannah International Academy, his perseverance and passion for community improvement continue to drive him. His story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit in overcoming adversity and striving for a better future, not just for himself but for his community as well.

Zakariah Awudu

Zakariah Awudu, currently in his final year at Savannah International Academy, has come a long way since being awarded the SIA Trust scholarship in Grade 8. Now 18 years old, he has weathered the challenges associated with financial constraints and geographical transitions.

Originally from Tamale, Zakariah found himself in Accra due to his parents’ involvement in petty trading at the Centre for National Culture. The struggle to pay termly fees at his former school in Accra prompted the need for the scholarship that brought him to Savannah International Academy.

As he prepares to write his A-levels in May 2024, Zakariah remains steadfast in his commitment to combating corruption, a passion that has grown stronger over the years. Living with his aunt in Tamale, he has made significant strides academically and actively engages in extracurricular activities. Zakariah’s interests extend beyond his studies, with a keen participation in Shotokan, chess, and conscious drama.

Zakariah’s journey is a testament to his resilience and determination to overcome financial barriers. Now, on the cusp of adulthood, he continues to foster his enthusiasm for leadership and anti-corruption efforts, aspiring to make a difference as an investigative journalist in Ghana and Africa as a whole. The upcoming A-level examinations mark a crucial milestone in his educational journey, laying the foundation for the next chapter in his pursuit of impactful change.
