In this edition, we share the heartwarming tale of the Zen Riders’ visit to Tamale and their impactful session at our Main Secondary Campus. Join us on this incredible journey of resilience, camaraderie, and a shared commitment to mental health awareness.
Pedaling into Tamale: On a sunny Sunday, our SIA students rolled out the welcome mat for the Zen Riders, led by the remarkable Don Milla. After an impressive 5-day cycling journey from Accra to Tamale, the Zen Riders were greeted with refreshing Baobab fruit juice from Duduhgu, a local favorite. The warmth of our students’ welcome was further extended as they escorted the riders to pay homage to the Dakpema palace. The talented Bamaya Dancers provided a traditional welcome, creating an atmosphere of celebration and cultural exchange.
A Toast to Resilience: Amidst the cheers and applause, the Zen Riders shared their experiences on the road, highlighting the challenges and triumphs of their cycling adventure. As a token of appreciation, our students presented the riders with chilled Baobab fruit juice, a gesture symbolizing the resilience and strength that both the Zen Riders and SIA students embody. The exchange was not just about refreshments; it was a meeting of spirits dedicated to promoting mental health awareness.
Inspiring Minds: On the following Monday, the Zen Riders graced our Main Secondary Campus in Sakpaligu, leaving an indelible mark on our students. With passion and sincerity, they spoke about the significance of mental health, sharing personal stories that resonated deeply with our students. Their journey, not just a physical one on bicycles, but a mental and emotional one, captivated the audience.
Madam Anita Solomon, the lone female rider on the team, emerged as a beacon of inspiration. Her unwavering perseverance touched the hearts of our students, proving that determination knows no gender. The Zen Riders emphasized the importance of a supportive team, echoing the ethos of SIA’s commitment to nurturing a supportive and empathetic educational community.
Gratitude and Exciting Plans: Our Principal, Mr. Farouk Illiasu, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Zen Riders’ visit, acknowledging the positive impact it had on our students. In a moment of excitement, he unveiled plans to introduce a cycling club in the upcoming academic term. This initiative aims not only to encourage physical activity but also to instill values of teamwork, resilience, and mental well-being among our students.
Cycling Towards a Brighter Future: As we reflect on the Zen Riders’ visit, it becomes evident that their journey transcends the physical act of cycling. It is a metaphor for life’s challenges and the collective strength found in unity. SIA is proud to align with the Zen Riders in advocating for mental health awareness, recognizing that physical and mental well-being go hand in hand.
SIA’s Commitment to Mental Health Awareness: At Savannah International Academy, we understand the importance of fostering an environment that prioritizes mental health. The Zen Riders’ visit serves as a catalyst for ongoing conversations about well-being, resilience, and the power of community support. In addition to the upcoming cycling club, SIA will continue to implement initiatives that promote mental health awareness, ensuring our students thrive in a nurturing and supportive educational environment.
Supporting the Mission: As we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Zen Riders for their inspiring visit, we also encourage our SIA community to rally behind their mission for mental health awareness. By sharing their story, supporting their cause, and fostering an open dialogue about mental health, we contribute to creating a more compassionate and understanding society.
