Meet Our Beneficiaries
Justin is 13 years old and is currently in Grade 8 at Savannah International Academy. He lives with his parents and three siblings at Gumanli/Kanvilli a suburb of Tamale.
Both of Justin’s parents are teachers at local senior high schools. Justin’s father developed Glaucoma and has been totally blind since 2008, which took a huge toll on his family in terms of medical bills and expenses, as well as in the general upkeep of the home as he was the primary breadwinner. Prior to being offered the SIA Trust scholarship, Justin was on scholarship at Abe Halperin, a school in his local community.
Justin is keen on contributing to his community through clean-up campaigns to solve the problem of keeping the community clean. At his new school, Justin loves that he can freely ask questions and express his opinions both in and outside of class and that his contributions are relevant to his teachers and classmates.
Zakariah is 13 years old and is currently in Grade 8 at Savannah International Academy. He lives in Tamale with his aunt who teaches at a public basic school in the outskirts of Tamale.
Both of Zakariah’s parents are petty traders at the Centre for National Culture (Arts Centre) in Accra. Prior to being offered the SIA Trust scholarship, Zakariah was in a school in Accra, where both his parents constantly had difficulty paying his termly fees. Zakariah is really excited about his scholarship because he feels his parents’ financial difficulty may have soon caused him to be moved to a substandard public basic school.
Zakariah is very passionate about leadership and corruption and hopes to be an investigative journalist to help stop the canker of corruption in Ghana and Africa as a whole. At his new school, Zakariah loves to ask questions and contribute to class discussions. He also loves that he can take part in extra- curricular activities such as Shotokan, chess and conscious drama.
